Many thanks to the committee and membership for the invitation to judge males at the 61st Pointer Club Championship Show. I’m sure every breed specialist cherishes the opportunity to judge at their breed show. My thanks to the exhibitors, stewards and committee for a very enjoyable day. On the day the weather was perfect dog showing weather which enabled us to make good use of the large grass rings. Unfortunately there was loud music blaring out from one of the other events at the showground which some dogs had trouble coping with. I was very pleased with the overall quality of the entry although I did find some bad mouths sadly which had to pay the price.
VETERAN DOG (7 entries, 1 absent)
1 st Wall’s Meadowpoint Spirit of Fire. A lovely class to start the day with. There is no getting away from the power, fitness and honesty of this boy. Balanced head with good length of foreface, strong crested neck leading to firm topline. Good bone and well shaped feet. Nicely ribbed back and deep through. Moved out well with assured, powerful stride topped off with wagging tail. Best male veteran but just pipped to the post at the end of the day for Best Veteran in Show by the bitch who was on her A game.
2 nd Tibbs’ Fydal Beeswing at Raigmore. A boy of similar age and again carrying his years lightly. Love the ‘pointeriness’ of this boy with his classic head and neat ears leading to a compact, fit body. Good firm topline and balanced angles. Well ribbed back and nicely busy on the move.
3 rd O’Neill’s Sh Ch Tenshilling Home Alone JW Sh CM.

MINOR PUPPY DOG (4, 0)
1 st Anthony’s Jilony Luther. Gorgeous little baby of such quality. Loved his clean cut, flowing lines. Sweet head leading into long neck and on into balanced angles. Good, well shaped bone. Obviously immature at this age but lots to like and look forward to. So light and happy on the move. Lovely waggy tail which was appreciated. Will watch his career with interest.
2 nd Hawkes and Robinson’s Codnorhawk Brucie Bonus. A very different type to 1. Six month baby who is very raw and needs to settle into his angles. Well boned although pasterns need to tighten. Very much at the start of his career, it will be interesting to see how he develops when he learns to focus and co operate with his handler.
3 rd Welch’s Hookwood Starman.
PUPPY DOG (6,1)
1 st Sarrou and Hall’s Gartarry New Kid in Town. 9month quality o/w boy. Super head with deep stop, neat ears and well shaped muzzle. Expressive eyes and pronounced occiput. Nice length of clean neck into good shoulder. Good quality oval bone with resilient, slightly sloping pasterns. Shapely topline and enough depth for age. Well set on tail and good quarters. Moved out well. Best Puppy Dog and delighted, on referee’s decision, to see him awarded Best Puppy in Show.
2 nd Westaway’s Teisgol Keep on Going. 9 month lem/w. Very nice puppy with balance all through from his head to his tail. Similar comments apply as to 1st. Super head with plenty of work, deep stop and lovely length of foreface. Nicely shaped topline, well ribbed back with nice depth. Well boned puppy in lovely condition. Unfortunately one that was disturbed by the other events music so didn’t give his best.
3 rd Stilgoe’s Glenariff Mojito over Teisgol.
JUNIOR DOG. (7,0)
1 ST Preece and Gilding’s Harvestslade Light of Peace. 12 month o/w boy with a clean cut classic head with deep stop and nice flews. Dark, kind eye. Clean neck leading into super front with good return of upper arm. Great depth to chest with well boned front legs and sloping pasterns. Shapely topline leading into matching angled hind quarters. Good width of stifle and second thigh. Well muscled and fit allowing him to move well on a good length of stride.
2 nd Marsh’s Lithespirit Hope and Glory for Ratchda. 15 month liv/w dog with a lovely head just right for his age. Clean, long neck into good front and well boned. Enough depth for age and sweeping stifles into low set hocks. Nice shape to his tail. Found his croup to be a tad steep but saying that he moved well and was in great condition.
3 rd License’s Tequesta Buster Keaton.
YEARLING DOG (3,1)
1 ST Martin’s Sunhouse You’re Nicked. 19 month o/w who oozes quality. Super shaped masculine head with well set and shaped ears. Deep stop and well developed flews. Super pigment and kind expression. Lovely long cresty clean neck leading into good front assembly built on well shaped bone, sloping pasterns and neat feet. Good depth to brisket, well ribbed, carried well back, strong loin into shapely quarters and well shaped tail. Powerful, ground covering mover who showed me enough today to win the class despite giving his handler a hard time. Once he settles he will trouble the best.
2 nd Philo’s Tenshilling It’s My Party for Salmonmist JW. 18 month old o/w boy just out of junior with plenty to like. Clean cut dog with nice flowing lines. Masculine head with good turn of lip and deep stop, kind expression. Cresty neck into decent front assembly. Well boned with sloping pasterns. Good depth and well ribbed back. Shapely quarters with good width of stifle and low set hocks. In super condition just preferred the feet and tail carriage of 1.
MAIDEN DOG (4,0)
1 st . Ram’s Jilony Brown Velvet. 17 month old liv/w of good stamp. Good head with correct length of foreface, would prefer slightly more turn of lip. Clean, long neck leading into decent front. Good oval bone with slight sloping pasterns. Enough depth for age and well ribbed back. Firm topline with powerful, well muscled hindquarters. Would prefer a shorter tail but used well on the move with his ground covering action.
2 nd Elrington’s Tequesta Harold Lloyd. 15 month b/w boy. More compact with modest but balanced angles. Nicely balanced head with good stop and foreface with well developed lip. Nicely set and shaped ears, clean neck into well boned front with resilient pasterns. Nice bend to stifles with low set hocks. Would like to see him relax into his topline and cover more ground.
3 rd Anthony’s Jilony Luther.
NOVICE (6,0)
1 st Westaway’s Teisgol Keep on Going. Second in Puppy dog class. He was far more relaxed in this class to show me his good ground covering movement.

DEBUTANT (2, 1)
1 ST Stilgoe’s Glenariff Mojito over Teisgol. 9 month b/w boy. Neat dog who was unlucky to meet others in previous classes. Sweet head with kind expression. Tidy dog all through with good balanced angles, good depth and stifle. He moved well although I would love to see him enjoying himself more with more animation. GRADUATE (4,1)
1 st Guy and Tuthill’s Cumbrian Knight King at Carofel (Imp USA.) Smart blanket black 22 months of age. Quality stamp in great condition. Balanced head who scores in length of foreface and well developed flews. Nice deep stop, kind dark eyes. Clean cresty neck into well angulated front with good length of upper arm. Good bone and pasterns. Shapely topline, good depth to brisket, ribs carried well back into strong loin. Well shaped quarters with good bend of stifle. Neat well used tail. Moved out well, coping well with a new runner. His muscle tone and condition are a credit to his owner.
2 nd Martin’s Sunhouse Banged to Rights. Another nice dog from this kennel. B/W 19 months old. Nicely made all through. Balanced head with deep stop and well developed foreface. Neat ears. Lengthy clean strong neck leading into good front with nice return of upper arm. Well boned with slightly sloping pasterns and well 14 cushioned feet. Shapely, strong topline, nice arch over loin. Good depth of brisket. Nice underline with ribs carried well back. Flows into his quarters with nice turn of stifle. Neat, well shaped tail. Needs to learn to relax and balance himself on the move to see the best of him.
3 rd Booth’s Lundgarth Teal.
POST GRADUATE (9,1)
1 st Wheldon and Earl’s Caithpoint Kai. 2.5 year old b/w in excellent order, brimming with fitness from this kennel. Another nice class where I was splitting hairs. This boy is a nice stamp and well made all through. Attractive male head with expressive eyes. Quality bone, resilient pasterns and well knitted feet. Good depth with heartroom. Well ribbed back with firm shapely topline and underline. Well shaped quarters with well set on tail. Moved with effortless style, his best is yet to come. Smart dog.
2 nd Weaver’s Dappleline Chance for Anniezu. 2 year old o/w. Unlucky to meet 1 today who just outmoved him although it was a close decision. Handsome, masculine head which scores in stop, foreface and muzzle. Well shaped skull with pronounced occiput bone. Clean, long neck into well angulated front. Good bone, pasterns and feet. Nice shape to firm topline and underline. Sweeping stifles with low set hocks and neat tail. He was on his best behaviour today portraying smooth, ground covering action. Coming to his best.
3 rd O’Neill and Timothy’s Tenshilling I Got the Fever.
MID LIMIT (2,0)
1 st Saunder’s Phlynnies Prince of Thieves JW 5 year old b/w. Nice headed dog with good stop and correct length of foreface and good turn of lip. Good length of clean neck, balanced angles fore and aft with deep body with ribs carried well back. A dog who is best seen on the move as he tends to relax and shows himself to advantage.
2 nd Sarrou and Hall’s Fowington’s Sir Danealot. 2 year old o/w. Nice type of dog who would benefit from carrying more weight. Pleasing head and exspression, neat well set on ears. Long neck leading to balanced matching angles fore and aft. Ribs carried well back leading to well muscled quarters and neat tail. A little proud of his tail on the move today and moved a tad close behind.
LIMIT (9,1)
My class of the day. What a headache in a good way.
1 st Preece and Gilding’s Harvestslade Cullinan. 4 year old o/w dog who had to bring his A game to top this class and that he did. While stood he is a no nonsense honest Pointer, plenty of quality with nothing overdone. Well balanced head with good stop and good length of foreface. Kind expressive eyes, neat well set ears of good shape. Clean long cresty neck. Good front with nice return of upper arm allowing his well boned front to sit nicely under him. Nice long resilient pasterns and well knitted feet. Firm well shaped topline, good depth and ribbing into shapely hindquarters with low set hocks. Neat well shaped tail. He outmoved all in this today with style and ground covering effortless action that could have gone on all day. Nice wagging tail topped off the picture. Pleased to award him the reserve CC in good company.
2 nd Blackburn – Bennett’s Kanix Obi at Stargang. I love this neat compact 5 year old o/w dog. From his gorgeous well moulded head, with great pigment and expressive warm eyes through his long neck, super front, firm topline, shapely underline, deep brisket and well ribbed back body, good bone, shapely well turned stifles to his neat tail. Unfortunately not quite putting it all in today. Truly splitting hairs in this very hot class.
3 rd Jamieson, McCara and Blackburn-Bennett’s Kanix Peri Peri with Glenfinnan. OPEN DOG. (1,0)
1 st Oddie’s Sh Sh Sharnphilly Boondoggle JW. 3 year old b/w male who I awarded the reserve CC to from junior last time I judged, he is now at full maturity. He scores in true balance, quality and type. Nicely shaped balanced masculine head with kind dark eyes presenting a melting expression. Neat well shaped thin leathers well set on. Long cresty neck into super front with good length of upper arm. Good oval bone with resilient pasterns and well knitted and shaped feet. Excellent depth and heartroom. Well ribbed back into nice shot strong loin. Firm topline into neat, well set on and shaped tail. Hindquarters score in width and 15 turn of stifle and second thigh. All in all a handy sized quality Pointer who moves with power and precision topped off with a wagging tail giving an impression of verve and interest. Delighted to award him the CC and on referee’s decision Best Opposite Sex in Show and Reserve Best in Show.
SPECIAL WORKING GUNDOG (2,1)
1 st Marsh’s Ch Ratchda’s Rock Thrush SGWC. 6 year old liv/w male of good make and shape. Classic head with good stop and length of foreface. Well developed muzzle. Good clean neck into well angulated front. Well boned, long, slightly sloping pasterns into well knitted feet of good shape. Strong topline. Nice depth and heartroom. Neat well shaped tail. Well turned stifles of good width providing strong quarters to drive from. Nice smooth mover covering plenty of ground with an active tail. In good fit condition. A worthy champion.

FIELD TRIAL DOG No entries.

SPECIAL BEGINNERS (4, 1 abs, 1 w/d.)
1 st Booth’s Lundgarth Finch. 4 year old o/w who is a nice type although somewhat ‘shelly’. Decent head with good foreface and neat well shaped ears. Front angulation a tad straighter than his rear angulation which becomes apparent on the move when he lifts his front to get out of the way of his hind action. In good fit condition.
2 nd Astbury’s Jilony Bobby Ball at Dorbury. 17 month b/w boy who is a nice shape on the stack. Good masculine head leading into long neck and powerful balanced forequarters. Well boned with deep body, firm topline and shapely underline. Good width and bend of stifle. Not particularly happy today and on the move he appeared to fall apart somewhat unfortunately.

I wish to thank the committee for giving me this honour, the voters, for having their trust, and the exhibitors for allowing me to see your exhibits, close up. I would also like to express my thanks to Ruth Francis and Lynda Rayner, my stewards for the day, for keeping my ring running so efficiently.

Veteran Bitch

1st - WELCH - IR SH CH Oxfordacres Trinity By Hookwood JW ShCM - 8 ½ year old, B/W. Shown in excellent condition. Balanced head, with deep flews, dark eyes, soft expression. Lengthy neck, into well laid shoulders, good return of upper arm, elbows neat to brisket. Ribs carried well back. Strong quarters, good amount of first and second thigh. Moved with drive, lashing tail as she went. BVIS.
2nd - LOWE- Lowsmoor Shiralee JW - 7½ years, orange and white bitch. In very good condition, balanced head, good amount of lip, dark eyes giving soft expression. Clean throat, lengthy neck into good shoulders. Ribs carried well back, shorter cast than winner. Strong quarters and thighs. Short tail, moved out well.

Correct return of upper arm. Brisket well let down. Ribs carried back nicely. Movement could be a little smoother.
