The Pointer Club held their Show Gundog Working Certificate Day for Pointers and Setters on Saturday 5th August, with the kind permission of the Lord Bolton of Wensley, at Apedale moor, Wensleydale.
The day had originally been scheduled for Sunday 23rd July, but due to the forecast of heavy rain this was cancelled. The day started with some training followed by the test for the SGWC.
The day was wet but the dogs proved enthusiastic, as did the handlers. There were plenty of grouse to test the dogs, all really well grown, and still in coveys. They were a good test for the dogs.
The judges were Terry Harris and Meryl Asbury
Two dogs achieved the SGWC
Mr D A Sayer’s Settersay Thunder (Irish Red and White Setter)
Mrs S Anderson Rowell’s Raigmore Limelight at Daledancer (Pointer)
After a very good morning on the hill there was a well earned retirement to the Wheatsheaf at Carperby for the presentations.
Thank you to all who took part

The Pointer Club held a stand alone Show Gundog Working Certificate Day at Abbeystead on 2nd April 2022, with the kind permission of His Grace, The Duke of Westminster.
The judges were Ms Meryl Asbury (A Panel) and Ms Sara Chichester (A Panel).
Ten dogs with their handlers took part. They were greeted at the Abbeystead yard, which is the hub of all gundog events, and relaxed with tea, coffee and biscuits before heading off to the moors. The weather was warm, sunny with a light breeze. In fact everything was perfect for this very enjoyable day. There was a plentiful supply of a variety of game birds. Grouse were in abundance, with an occasional pheasant, snipe and even greylag geese.
There were four dogs attained the Show Gundog Working Certificate
Miss A S K Henshaw with Sharnphilly Vice Versa with Peteshe Pointer Dog
Mrs S Langford with Fydal Cortese of Papermill Pointer Dog
Mr N A & Mrs C A Sherwood with Tryremy Samaroli at Lambleaze Pointer Bitch handled by Mr N A Sherwood
Mrs B K Seaman with Mariglen Dusty Blonde English Setter Bitch
At the end of the day everyone returned to the yard where the awards were presented by Underkeeper Tim Green, who was our Steward for the day.
Many thanks to all who took part to make this a very successful day.
